AI use — authors, reviewers and editors

This policy has no exception for any tool, from any company, including any company connected to this publisher. See §8.

Authors. AI tools cannot be listed as authors — an author must be accountable, and software cannot be. Where AI tools were used in preparing the manuscript, that use must be disclosed in a statement in the paper, naming the tool and what it was used for. Authors remain fully responsible for everything in their paper, including anything an AI tool produced: fabricated references, invented data and misattributed claims are the author's responsibility, not the tool's.

Reviewers. A manuscript under review is confidential and unpublished. Reviewers must not upload any part of it to any AI service, because doing so discloses another person's unpublished work to a third party. Reviews must be the reviewer's own assessment.

Editors. The same confidentiality rule applies. No editorial decision is made by an AI system. AI may assist with administrative tasks such as similarity screening; it does not assess a paper's merit and it does not accept or decline anything.
